The Importance of Respect

Hello 11th Grade Students!

As you know, this month's Character Education word is "Respect." We all know how important it is to truly understand the meaning of respect. In a well thought out paragraph please define the word "respect" in your own words. What does it mean to you? How do you show respect to others? (Parents, teachers, friends, even strangers). Do you require respect from others? If so, who? Include details in your answer.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Respect is a way of being good and kind to the people around you. Respect is never talking back to your parents, teachers, or anyone older than yourself. You need to have respect for others if you want them to respect you. You can show respect to others by using polite words, listening to what they tell you, or just by not being disrespectful. For example: when you have guests at your house, don't sit in your room, instead go sit with the guest, and make them coffee as well. I do require respect from others, because it shows the kind of person they are, and those are the people I want to be surrounded by. I require respect from all of my friends, from anyone younger than me, and from anyone who doesn't know me.

  2. Respect is treating someone the way that you would want to be treated. To me, respect takes someone's feelings and thoughts and puts them into consideration. You can be respectful by saying "please" and "thank you", not interrupting someone when they are talking, and not breaking the laws that you are given to follow. If someone were to be wearing glasses, you shouldn't be making fun of them because you wouldn't want someone to come and make fun of you. I require respect from people that I am respectful to.

  3. Respect is one of the most important charecter traits anyone can have. Respect is not talking back to your elders or interupting others when speaking. Its saying "excuse me" instead of "move." Having respect you should be fair, by meaning fair means not to judge anyone by thier cover. I do require respect from friends and family. Its always nice having someone listen to what you have to say even if its the smallest thing.

  4. Respect is one of the most important virtues out there. It means to treat others the way you'd like to be treated and not judging a person by their outer appearance. I do require to respect from my friends, family, and teachers so I can be treated the same in return. I believe without showing respect, many people will not get anywhere in life and maybe not get the job they always wanted or be invited to hang out with their friends because of it.

  5. Respect, is to always be: nice, kind, and good to the people who are around you. Respect is to treat people the way you would want to be treated. To me, you look for respect in a person you first meet, it's very important. You have to have respect for others, especially adults and whoever is older than you. You can show your respect in many ways by talking and acting in a polite manner. For example, when you first meet someone, you approach then with the utmost of respect, so they know what kind of=f person you really are, and also so they could respect you back. You realize what kind of person they are by them being respectful towards you, it shows a lot. I require respect from others who I am respectful toward.

  6. Respect is the characteristic in which one truly shows how much he/ she cares about the people they are around. It is to demonstrate the inner dealings you have for them by acknowledging their presents by you. One can show respect to parents, elderly, friends and relatives by listening to what they have to say, caring about their opinions, and always letting them take the first step ahead of you as a sign of kindness. I require respect from others and look forward to acquiring such respect by showing respect in return.

  8. I find respect as the most important characteristic of a person. In order to get respect, you have to show respect. You have to show respect to everyone whether they are older or younger, it doesnt matter. If you show respect to the person in front of you, then you should get it back.

  9. Respect is an amazing thing to have towards anyone. To respect someone shows braveness in many different ways. To give respect to someone in any way, it shows the person being a better and bigger person. In order to get respect from someone else, you must give them respect at all times. Show someone respect and kindness the way you would like to be treated back.
Respect should be given at all times, no matter how old the person is.

  10. Respect is a trait or characteristic that is very well cherished nowadays. You must show your respect to someone on a daily basis. And, in order to get respect, one must be able to show it. You can show respect others by just simply having the morals of a "nice" person. Finally, I show my respect by trying my best to be fair, encouraging and promising.

  11. Respect is a very important trait to have. Showing respect to others tells them that you care about them and that you have manners. By showing respect others will treat you better and show more interest in you. Everyone should treat others the way they would want to be treated because why should someone be respectful with you when you never are with them?

  12. To me respect is a not something you learn, it is a trait you are born with it, basically your personality. You must show it to earn it. Its not a given, it's something you earn by the way you respect others. Many people first notice the way you respectfully introduce yourself and notice that your respectful and they respect you back. Overall, you are going to need respect until the last day.

  13. Respect is a very important character trait one needs to have. By being respectful you show that you have good character. Its not easy to respect everyone, some people could be very disrespectful towards you and leave you in a state of confusion. You must respect in order to be respected, its not something that is handed to you, you have to earn it and maintain it. As an Armenian kid, having respect towards your elders is very important and shows the quality of your upbringing.

  14. What does respect mean to me? Respect can be defined in many ways for me. For instance to gain respect you must show the other individual likewise respect. Respect is not given, it is earned either by your actions or your known reputations. In some cases one must know the limit of respect to show towards others, for example if one is not pleasant around or you not as respectful toward you, then theres no need to show him or her your full respect, thers no need for disrespect either just limited respect is enough. Also respect is npt just by being nice towards someone it is also by helping out one , encouraging one , and by geeting to them at their hard times. Respect is a characteristic that people should be aware of snd know how to earn it keep it and use it.

  15. Everyone wants to be respected, but the only way to get respect, is by being respectful to others. Treat people the way you would want to be treated. Being respectful includes being truthful, honest, caring, and non-judgmental. Every answer Is going to be the same. Nothing else is needed to be said.

  16. Respect is a very key component to a happy lifestyle. When people respect you, they will not cause any problems with you. When you respect others, you will not ause any problems with them. Finally, when you respect yourself, you will make your life easier to deal with. It is important for respect to be present in the classroom to ensure an effective learning process is taking place.

  17. Respect is what makes one succeed in life. By showing respect and admiration, people will respond with a positive outlook. “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” If you want to be complimented and treated with well respect, act the same towards the people around you.
One can show respect through words or actions. A simple thank you shows that you are appreciative and have respect towards that person. By just staying quiet in class displays the respectful you. You are not disturbing your teacher and are allowing her to instruct the class without any interruptions.
Well, of course I require respect from others. I show my regards to them, so I would want the same back.

  18. Respect is a way of being good and kind to the people that are around you. Treat people the way you would want to be treated by others. Respect is way to tell others that you care about them and that you have manners. Respect isnt just given to people, they must earn it. But, if it is lost, there is no way of getting it back.

  19. Google says respect is "A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements." I very much agree, however I would like to add that respect is also SHOWING someone that admiration. It isn't truly respect until you have the decency to portray and maintain that emotion. One shows respect by showing the other person that they will listen to what they say, care about what they feel, etc. I expect people who choose to be in my life to respect me, and more importantly, themselves.

  20. Respect is a type of sympathy you show towards someone. Even if you dislike someone, the least you should do is respect them. However, by no means you should respect a person if they don't respect you back. Once you lose the trust of another person, they will no longer respect you. And beleive it or not, it is truly hard to gain back someones trust and respect towards you.
